The Jakarta Hotels Association (JHA) hosted its final members’ meeting of 2024 on October 16th at the Pacific Lounge, Pan Pacific Jakarta. This significant event was honoured by the presence of Mr. Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, who delivered a heartfelt and inspiring speech.

Farewell and Reflection by Minister Sandiaga S. Uno

During his address, Mr. Uno announced his farewell as he concludes his tenure as Minister. He took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the hotel industry for its vital role in revitalizing Indonesian tourism. Reflecting on the journey, he highlighted:

1. Tourism Recovery: Under his leadership, the tourism sector saw an extraordinary rebound, with tourism numbers exceeding those of 2022, and the industry now positioned as the fourth-largest source of foreign exchange for Indonesia.

2. Future of Indonesian Tourism: Mr. Uno voiced his optimism for the future, particularly in Jakarta, foreseeing further growth driven by tourism’s synergy with the creative economy.

3. Sustainability and Job Creation: He emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism development and the role it plays in job creation across the country.

Gratitude from JHA Chairman

Following Mr. Uno’s farewell, the Chairman of the Jakarta Hotels Association, Mr. Carlos Monterde, expressed his sincere appreciation for the Minister’s tireless efforts in advancing Indonesia’s tourism industry. He commended Mr. Uno for his commitment and impactful contributions, which have been instrumental in fostering growth and innovation in the sector.

Discussion by Deputy Rizki Handayani Mustafa

The discussion was continued by Ms. Rizki Handayani Mustafa, the Deputy of Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. She provided deeper insights into the tourism industry’s performance and investment opportunities, covering topics such as:

  • Tourism Growth: A detailed overview of tourism performance until August 2024, which saw over 9 million foreign tourists and 674 million domestic visits​.
  • Investment Priorities: She outlined future investment projects, focusing on the development of priority tourism destinations, with Jakarta being a key player
